How school quality affects the success of a conditional cash transfer program Conditional cash transfer programs

Over the past decade, conditional cash transfer programs have been widely adopted in lowerand middle-income countries. Nearly every Latin American country has such a program, and pilot programs are being implemented in countries around the world, including locations in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and most recently, North America. There has been relatively consistent evidence that these programs successfully achieve their short-term goals of increasing income, reducing current poverty levels, and increasing those parental investments in children that are directly tied to program incentives. There is much less evidence, however, that conditional cash transfer programs improve longer-term education and health outcomes for children.
